Facilities

Organ

St Michaels OrganThe organ at St Michael’s is one of the finest in the South West sited in a ‘village’ church.  There have been numerous improvements to the instrument during its 150 year existence, the last of which culminated in a complete removal of the pipe work from the North East end of the church, to the West Gallery.

The organ now boasts 3 manual and 43 speaking stops.  It has a detached portable console which started life in Westminster Abbey.  It has been mounted on a wooden platform so that it can be wheeled into the central nave for organ recitals and concerts, thereby giving the audience full visual appreciation of the organist and their hands and feet, enhancing the concert experience.

Swift Boxes

St Michael’s tower is home to some swift boxes.

Swift populations in Britain are in rapid decline, with a lack of nesting sites seen as a key factor.  In 2018, one of our bellringers and our churchwarden built and installed several swift boxes within the church tower.  We have a CCTV system that allows images to be seen in both the ringing chamber and in the church.
