‘Confirmation’ is a special church service conducted by a Bishop in which a person confirms the promises that were made on their behalf when they were baptised. Choosing to be confirmed is a powerful way to “own” one’s faith and publicly commit to the journey begun at baptism.
If you decide that you wish to get confirmed within this Parish, you will attend Confirmation Classes run by St Micheal’s church. These classes will offer you the opportunity to discuss core Christian beliefs and explore tough questions that you may have about Christianity. The aim is to enable you to grow in faith and to understand what it means to be a Christian in the world today. By the time you stand before the Bishop to receive the laying on of hands, you will be saying “yes” to being an active, vital part of our church, and part of a global community of Christians dedicated to love and faith.
If you were not christened as a child you will need to be baptised before confirmation. This can take place at the same service. If there are insufficient confirmation candidates from St Michael’s church alone, we may join with other local church communities, and the Bishop will invite us to come together for a joint service in a nearby parish or at Exeter cathedral.
If you feel ready for confirmation or are unsure and would like advice please speak to the priest in charge.
